The Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen is the most popular park in Almaty. It was founded in the 1870s instead of the Cossack cemetery, therefore initially it was the Old Cemetery Park. The park is a green area of 18 hectares separated with straight paths and alleys with a mix of deciduous trees, such as old oaks, elms, aspens, maples, poplars, pines and spruces.

The park had changed its name many times for the years of its existence, until it was finally renamed in 1942 in honour of the Panfilov guardsmen from 1075 regiment 316 rifle division, who held German attack with few people on the way to Moscow in November 1941.
